A message from FIERCE Executive Director Rickke Mananzala
Dear FIERCE community:
I want to share some important updates about my work with FIERCE with you. This Fall, after more than six years on the FIERCE staff, I will be transitioning out of my current role as Executive Director. I am excited about this upcoming change because I will be exploring new ways that I can contribute to the social justice movement. I am also looking forward to my transition because it will create openings for other young people to take on new forms of leadership in the organization. I am thankful for the experience I had growing into my current role and for the opportunity I was given to deepen my ability to lead. I am eager to support the next phase of young leadership in the organization, and I am confident that FIERCE is in strong position to uphold our long-standing commitment to support the next generation of social justice movement leaders.

On February 3, 2010, FIERCE hosted an LGBTQ Youth of Color Organizing Summit, which brought together 30 LGBTQ youth from 11 organizations across the country.
The summit was one way that FIERCE put recommendations from Coming Out, Stepping Up into actions, particularly the call on LGBTQ youth to increase our capacity to organize through developing effective campaign strategies, membership base-building, and deepening political consciousness.
FIERCE Members facilitated trainings at the Summit and were active throughout the Creating Change Conference.
Live updates from the Youth Summit and Creating Change Conference were captured on our Twitter profile. Stay tuned to our website for report backs from the Summit and our National Program.
FIERCE Releases New National Report
on LGBTQ Youth Organizing
In the summer of 2009, FIERCE conducted a national LGBTQ youth needs assessment to identify the major challenges facing LGBTQ youth and to assess strategies used to address these challenges.
Coming Out, Stepping Up summarizes key findings from the survey and provides recommendations for how organizations can strengthen their work to build a more effective LGBTQ youth movement.
The report is being released in conjunction with FIERCE's first national LGBTQ Youth of Color Organizing Summit, which will bring together 30 youth from 13 organizations across the country to build their organizing skills. The summit is a critical opportunity for youth of color to share approaches on how they can build their political power and shape the direction of LGBTQ youth organizing and its relationship to the LGBTQ movement.
