10th Anniversary Gay-La!
On Thursday, May 13, 2010 FIERCE hosted our
10th Anniversary Gay-la Extravaganza!
The Gay-la Extravaganza was a huge success. Over 500 people attended the event, including FIERCE Members, Alumni, Founders, Allies and hundreds of community supporters.
Thanks to your support, we raised over $32,000 to support FIERCE in continuing our work to build the leadership and power of LGBTQ youth of color in NYC.
Money raised will also help support FIERCE’s growing Education for Liberation Project, which provides political education and organizing skills training for LGBTQ youth of color, and our campaign work to ensure that the West Village remains a safe space for LGBTQ youth, including the “Our SPOT (Safe Place to Organize Together) Campaign” for a 24-hour LGBTQ youth center on Pier 40.
The event was hosted at the Highline Ballroom and included a special Pink Carpet Celebration with DJ Tikka Masala and a FIERCE program reflecting on the past decade with FIERCE Members, Alumni, Founders, Staff and Board.
The following slideshow premiered at the Pink Carpet to celebrate the past decade of FIERCE’s youth-led organizing work.
The Pink Carpet was followed by an incredible FIERCE Night Out! concert with performances by Meshell Ndegeocello, Toshi Reagon & BIGLovely, Staceyann Chin, House of LaDosha, and FIERCE performances by members and staff.
A slammin’ afterparty followed with DJ Bill Coleman and UBIQUITA DJ’s Rimarkable and shErOck!

The FIERCE Gay-la brought together hundreds of community supporters, allies, youth members and alumni, current and former staff and board to help support FIERCE.
